Make Your Own: Homemade Scented Soap

Making Homemade Scented Soap

The most important thing you’ll need to make soap is soap base. It’s up to you whether you choose a classic white base or one that contains, for example, shea butter.

Tip: When weighing the base, cut it into 3x3 cm pieces so it melts faster.

Cut the soap base into pieces according to how many homemade soaps you plan to make. On average, you’ll need 100 grams of solid base per soap. If you’re pouring the soaps into this silicone mold, you’ll need 600 grams of soap base for one batch. Remember to wash the mold before use and spray it with isopropyl alcohol.
A great way to make your creations stand out is to use stamps attached to the bottom of the mold. You could use wildflower motifs or stamps with English phrases.

Tip: Before applying the stamps, make sure the alcohol in the mold has dried. The stamps need to fit snugly against the bottom.

When melting the soap base and working with oil, put on protective gloves. You can melt the cut-up pieces either in a double boiler or in the microwave. If you choose the second option, set the appliance to 80% power and melt the base in 30-second intervals. Be sure to stir it between intervals so it doesn’t get damaged by the heat.

The next step is to add color and oil. Add 1 centimeter of Zenicolor paints and 3 drops of essential oil for every 100 grams of soap base. Don’t forget to mix it thoroughly so the color is evenly distributed in the handmade soaps.

Carefully pour the mixed soap base into silicone molds, making sure the stamps on the bottom don’t move.
At the beginning, we mentioned the rectangular mold, which is ideal for making soaps. If you’re open to experimenting, you can also try a heart shape or even one of the other interesting molds we offer. We think kids will especially love the car and flower shapes.

Tip: Above all, don’t forget to clean the molds with alcohol before use.

Bubbles may form on the surface of the poured soap base, and they won’t look very nice on the finished soap. They’re easy to remove. Just spray the surface of the soap base with isopropyl alcohol.

For each batch of melted soap base, you can choose a different color to mix into the base. This creates soaps in different colors. You can even mix individual paints to create a completely new color option.

The soap base will take about two hours to harden in the mold. Then you can remove the soaps and carefully take off the silicone stamps. We found that tweezers work well for this, as they’re less likely to scratch the homemade soap.

If you want to hang your soaps on a string, just make a hole in the soap base, for example, with a skewer. Then thread the string through the hole… and your eco-friendly soap for the bathroom is ready!
