Creating Magic with Van Gogh Watercolors: Houseplants

Painting Houseplants With Van Gogh Watercolors

You know the feeling: In desperation, you look around the room while your Muse stands impatiently beside you, waiting for the right moment to give you a nudge. But you still can't find the right subject worthy of being immortalized on watercolor paper. And then it happens! Your eye falls on a little plant resting contentedly on the windowsill. The Muse smiles because you both know you've just found the one. So you pick up a brush and watercolors…

Watercolors are one of the most rewarding techniques in the art world. Once you learn how to work with water and pigment, a world of endless possibilities opens up. We tried to make the most of them while painting, so we reached for the Van Gogh Set.

But back to the point: How do you paint houseplants?

Houseplants in your home are one of the most rewarding subjects to paint. You can capture their simple shape with just a few strokes using watercolors, or work in the smallest details. Whether you're inspired by bamboo, a snake plant, a ZZ plant, a monstera, or another plant, trust us, painting them will be just as easy as it was for us in this video:

But you don’t have to stick to the rules. Feel free to place an exotic plant in your flowerpot, one that hasn’t been seen in our part of the world before. The main thing is to enjoy painting!
