Most Expensive Paintings in the World

Take a look at the list of the most expensive works of art ever sold in the world.
Get ready for prices that will make your head spin.

The Card Players - Paul Cézanne
It became the most expensive painting in the world after selling for $250 million. The painting was bought by Qatar's royal family, which experts say is one of the biggest buyers in the global art market.

No. 5 - Jackson Pollock
It sold for a record $140 million. Interestingly, we don't know who bought this work, but speculation is circulating that it may have been Mexican businessman David Martines.

Woman III - Willem de Kooning
It was valued at $137.5 million. The buyer of this mid-20th-century portrait is Steven Cohen.

Adele Bloch-Bauer I - Gustav Klimt
This portrait was sold to Ronald Lauder for 135 million dollars in 2006 and now adorns his gallery in New York.

The Scream - Edvard Munch
It depicts a figure screaming against a blood-red sky. It was recently sold to an unknown buyer for an incredible 119.9 million dollars.

Nude, Green Leaves and Bust - Pablo Picasso
This painting was sold at auction in New York in 2010 for 106.5 million dollars. It depicts a portrait of Picasso's lover and muse, Marie-Thérèse Walter, from 1932. Incidentally, two more works by Picasso are among the 10 most expensive paintings sold: "Boy with a Pipe" and "Dora Maar with Cat".

Although art is said to be priceless, these works prove that art has astronomical price tags on the market. Few artists lived to see their works sell for such record-breaking sums.
